In this Episode 13 of DMC TV's HISTORY OF DJ, Tony Prince conducts an off-camera interview with Trevor Dann the BBC Radio 1 Producer who explains the background to the sackings of a number of Radio 1 DJs who had out-served their time at the BBC.

Trevor was a producer at Radio 1 during the 1970's and 80's producing Roundtable, the Dave Lee Travis shows and 25 years of Rock. His BBC TV work included the Old Grey Whistle Test and Live Aid. In 1980 he moved to London's GLR as Programme Controller.

By 1993, the truth was dawning on BBC bosses that Radio 1 could survive only by attracting a younger audience.

A long-standing friend of Matthew Bannister the man who replaced Johnny Beerling as controller of Radio One, Trevor returned to Radio 1 in January 1995 as Head of Production.

Under instruction from Bannister, Trevor wielded his axe on the careers of Dave Lee Travis, Paul Burnett, Bruno Brooks and others including production staff who's work was based on requirements two decades earlier.

In March 1996 Dann commented, "If I go down in history as the man who stopped Radio 1 playing crap records, then I shall be a proud man." In a cloud of controversy he banned Status Quo and the Beatles.

Trevor later became BBC Head of Music Entertainment, and from June 2003 co-presented the weekday breakfast show on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire with Emma Maclean.
In a recent candid interview for RADIO TODAY, Trevor Dann conducts an extraordinary interview with Paul Gambaccini who has been named as the successor to Tony Blackburn's Pick of the Pops ON BBC RADIO 2: (https://audioboom.com/boos/4641326-the-radio-today-programme-june-1st-2016-gambaccini?t=0)

Trevor Dann is candid, outspoken and, as his job demanded, extremely opinionated. For the first time, DMC goes deep inside the BBC to discover what really happened in the RADIO 1 DJ KILLING FIELDS.
